The Port Coquitlam Sushi Guide
For a city its size, PoCo takes sushi seriously. Here are the counters and Japanese rooms across the city, from the Shaughnessy strip to Mary Hill Road and the east side.

For a city its size, Port Coquitlam takes sushi seriously. There are more sushi counters here than most people expect, scattered across every strip in town, and the Tri-Cities appetite for Japanese food keeps every one of them busy. Some are classic counters where the chef works a short menu in front of you. Others are larger rooms built for family dinners and takeout platters. Between them they cover the whole city, from the old downtown to the Mary Hill bench, and learning which is which is one of the better local skills to acquire.
The Shaughnessy Street strip carries the densest run. Kosho Sushi and Sushi Fu both hold storefront positions on the strip, and Sushi Kamizato works out of the big commercial block on the street, where the restaurants share the complex's foot traffic. This is the stretch I point newcomers to first: three counters within a short walk of each other, each with its own style, and all of them used to both the sit-down crowd and the takeout line that builds before dinner. If you work downtown, this strip is your lunch rotation.
The blocks around downtown spread the map further. Sushi Bar Shyun holds a spot on Dominion Avenue, Poco Sushi works the Ottawa Street blocks, and Sushi 990 serves the Nicola Avenue cluster where a lot of the east-side errands happen. Over on Prairie Avenue, Yokozna Sushi anchors one of the busy commercial stretches and pulls a crowd that spans the whole neighborhood. These rooms tend to be smaller and steadier than the strip counters, the kind of places where the staff know the orders of the people ahead of you in line.
Beyond the core, the sushi keeps coming. Sushi Village carries the Coast Meridian Road corridor, Miu Japanese Cuisine works the Mary Hill Road strip for the bench neighborhoods, and Kai Japanese Restaurant anchors the Village Drive cluster in Glenwood with a fuller Japanese menu. That geographic spread is the PoCo pattern in miniature: no single sushi district, just a good counter in almost every pocket, so nobody has to cross town for a decent roll. The directory lists each one with its address, and the clusters are close enough that comparing two in one evening is a realistic plan.
A few notes on how to order like a local. Lunch is the value window at most counters, and the takeout trade is a serious part of the business, so call ahead if you are picking up for more than a couple of people. Ask about the chef's selection if you want the counter to decide for you, and ask what is seasonal if you care about that kind of thing. Sushi travels better than most takeout, which makes it the standard PoCo dinner for nights when the week wins: a platter on the counter, and the Traboulay loop for the weekend instead. Every room in this guide has been verified for the directory, so you can trust the address and start eating your way through.
